So, what’s Peri up to these days? Or, more to the point, where can you see actress Nicola Bryant on the TV at the moment? If you don’t know who I’m talking about, Nicola is the lady pictured on the left, with her most famous creation directly above (obviously, unless Miss Bryant has taken to pointing guns at people!). She’s the girl in my avatar. I was going to say bed but that’s wishful thinking and you wouldn’t have believed me if I had! If you scroll down the page or click on the relevant label, she can also be seen receiving bat’s milk from Peter Davison in my earlier post “All Change”! Yup, same lady and one of my all-time favourite “Doctor Who” companions. Doubters will tell you she whined all the time, especially when teamed up with Colin Baker. Sceptics will tell you I adored Nicola as Peri, in the mid-Eighties, simply because she had big tits and wore a bikini all the time. She didn’t wear a bikini all the time, unfortunately! I only wish she had, so I can’t argue with the sceptics! Occasionally, she could be found in shorts but in one of her best stories, “Revelation of the Daleks”, Peri is completely covered at all times… sounds positively feudal! Today, she can be seen in the “Bold 2in1 Teenager’s Bedroom” commercial. It’s good to see she’s in work but the less said about that the better. And, what of the future? Well, if you’re going to bring back so many bloody companions, Rusty, at least include one that I like… Nicola can sniff my towels anytime!!

"had big tits and wore a bikini all the time". Normally I would see that as a good thing and to be encouraged in a TV show but I'm really not sure I want to see such an ethos applied to Donna Noble... to tell you the truth I'm not sure that Tennant's Doctor would respond well to someone in a bikini for all his apparent savvy.
[Co-incidentally, this was posted yesterday to a mailing list I'm on]
The Barbican in London currently has an exhibition entitled Seduced: Art and Sex from Antiquity to Now. Along side the Roman erotic pottery, Jeff Koons and a fantastic set of Picasso etchings, there is an audio installation in which various actors read out short passages from classic erotic literature through the ages.
One of these is Nicola Bryant.
So, if you ever wanted to hear 'Peri' saying, "You've got a lovely thick ***k," then get down there before the exhibition finishes.
It's not always a guarantee of quality television though, Steve! I'm thinking in particular, or trying hard not to, of Pamela Anderson in "Baywatch"! But, as well as owning a fine bosom, Nicola is also very pretty with it!!
I must admit, Stuart, I've never wanted to hear 'Peri' saying that but now you come to mention it... lol! Alas, we'll probably never know what she really said to Colin Baker after he helped her over that wall in "Revelation of the Daleks"!!
Nicola IS very attractive in the looks stakes (and this is coming from a gay man). The shoving her in a bikini thing whilst in DW did border on gratuity though. (Says me, loving the sight of Turlough in his swimming trunks!)
I have to say Tim, Peri isn't, with hindsight, one of my fave companions. I found her kind of whiney and irritating. Mind you some of that could have been down to the scripts, not to mention her tempestuous relationship with Sixth Dr Colin Baker - they were often at each other's throats. I wonder how she would have turned out if Peter Davison's tenure had lasted longer?
Her "departure" was very sad though and proved that Nicola could play her role very differently! The moment from "Mindwarp" when she stood in the laboratory, possessed by Kiv, with a deep, masculine voice, was genuinely unnerving.
And as for what she's up to now:
February 2006 - she performed in a New End Theatre production of the Carl Djerassi play "Taboos"
Early 2007 - she appeared in The Tom Stoppard London stage production of "Rock 'n' Roll".
A DVD documentary, "In The Footsteps of The Two Doctors", following Nicola's return to some of the locations featured in the Doctor Who serial The Two Doctors was released in late 2006.
Well, I got that off Wikipedia...
Critics did claim the sixth Doctor and Peri seemed like a married couple but I didn't take that from their relationship. As I recall, they were only at each other's throats in "The Twin Dilemma" and that because the Doctor's regeneration had gone wrong. The moment is prepared for at the end of "The Caves of Androzani" when the dying Doctor says it "feels different this time".
I think some of the scripts, Nicola was given, were pretty strong, too. You mention "The Two Doctors", brilliant script, very amusing and clever, poorly directed. Had Graeme Harper directed it, everyone would be exclaiming masterpiece! "Vengeance on Varos" is intriguing stuff, too, let down by being completely studio bound, and thus seeming a bit wooden, but brimming with good ideas.
I met Nicola at a convention thing a few years ago (is 20 a few?) she was just lovely and put up with all us geeky freak folk without stabbing any of us. I got some nice photos.
And she's got nice baps, did I mention that?
I'm very envious of you, Michael. I've met Nicola's "Doctor Who" predecessor, Janet Fielding, and successor Bonnie Langford but Peri remains my favourite companion of the Eighties!
Nicola is a lovely person, also met Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton and Sophie at the same con. Janet used to be a fave of mine until I listened to some recent commentaries on the who stories.
Please shut her up someone, she has no idea what she's saying!
I met Patrick Troughton, Richard Franklin and Anthony Ainley same time as I met Janet and Bonnie. While it was Bonnie's first "Who"-related event, it also turned out to be Pat's last appearance, in costume, in the UK before he died the following year so I'm damn glad I went that day!
I have long had a crush on Nicola Bryant ever since I saw her in a Bikini in Doctor Who Planet of fire. I've seen the Stuart Douglas Post (see above) and was wondering if he recorded Nicola's Performance?
I'd love to hear this recording!!!
If you guys own a recording, reach me at warmcanofcoke@gmail.com.
I've recently been trying to find other movies and TV shows with her in them but have found very few available on DVD or video cassette.
But I recommend the Movie "Parting Shots" Peter Davison plays a lawyer, he (and friend) hires a set prostitutes one of which is played by Nicola Bryant. She Strips down to her bra, etc etc....
lol
I think many of us have had a crush on Nicola since episode one of "Planet of Fire", Nathaniel! It's unlikely Stuart recorded her performance at the Barbican as he lives in Scotland. In any case, it was part of an audio installation... Nicola wasn't actually there, it was pre-recorded!
The Christmas episode of "Blackadder" is available on DVD in which Nicola appears all too briefly. I haven't seen "Parting Shots" but have seen the clip from it you mention! I guess we'll have to wait for the DVD release of "Planet of Fire" and I would also welcome "Attack of the Cybermen"!!
Sorry Nathaniel, but too far to travel even for Peri talking dirty :)
