The new edition of the Radio Times, out today, has a terrific “Doctor Who” cover. The look on fifth Doctor Peter Davison’s face says it all! Mind you, so does the smirk on the face of David Tennant’s tenth Doctor!! Peter is obviously wondering what-the-hell his future incarnation has done to the console room of his TARDIS? David is grinning, confident in the knowledge that he is now the big boss man! It’s a good picture but it does suggest that the “Children in Need” Special, “Time Crash”, is going to be played for laughs. I guess you can’t have an angst-ridden story when its purpose is to raise money for those less fortunate than ourselves. The new episode, written by Steven Moffat, airs on Friday 16th November, exactly a week before the 44th anniversary of the show on the 23rd. It’s interesting to note that the last time two Doctors collided, sixth Doctor Colin Baker with second Doctor Patrick Troughton, was also the last time the Time Lord faced the Sontarans, due to return next year. I wonder if Peter will be bringing any of his former companions with him? I’d love to see Peri again…

You and your Peri fiaxation! I know a few years back Nicola Bryant had some kind of accident with her back which rendered her inactive, she doesn't appear to have lost her looks though.
I'm really looking forward to the special though as you say I wonder if it will have humorous slant. Mind you the "stop-gap" special (between "Parting of the ways" and "Xmas Invasion") was largely serious in nature...
My only real reservation is how old PD now looks. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to all suspend disbelief...
"Time Crash" already seems to have much in common with "The Three Doctors"! Hartnell looked much changed, through age (and ill-health), when he reprised his role of the first Doctor in that Tenth Anniversary story, as Davison does now in what could be seen as the 44th Anniversary story!
Bill's Doctor was also seemingly annoyed at his successors ("So you're my replacements - a dandy and a clown!"), as Davison appears to be with Tennant in the photo on the cover of this week's Radio Times.
I didn't know about Nicola's accident, Simon, so thanks for the information. Apparently, her back injury was caused by a fall on the stage, in the early 2000s, but she is now fully recovered, thank goodness.
Regarding her looks, and I do quite often(!), it's hard to believe she was 45 last month. I never liked what they did with her hair for "The Trial of a Time Lord", or the mess they made when writing her out, and prefer to remember Nicola as Peri from her previous two seasons of "Doctor Who".
Miss Bryant was extraordinarily lucky to have appeared in both Peter and Colin's best "Doctor Who" stories. Now, about your Tegan fixation!!
Love the black and white James Bond-esque pic at the bottom! Plainly I was missing out big time by not catching DW during the Pete Davison years... Must admit I'm feeling quite ambivalent about the DW outing at Children In Need... bu I suppose at the end of the day the cause is more important. However, I'm hoping that Moffat's sense of pride will cause him to pull off something worthy and spectacular...
The black and white pic, Steve, was a publicity shot taken to introduce new companion Peri to "Doctor Who", back in 1984, in a story filmed in Lanzarote called "Planet of Fire". It was indeed hot stuff as she spent most of the first episode in a bikini! It was very well-directed!!
I'd forgotten how close the transmission is, of the "Doctor Who" mini-episode, until I saw the Radio Times cover!
I'm looking forward to seeing Davison as the Doctor again, could be great fun !!!
Me too, Andrew.
